Colin Haig

Colin Haig, BSc, MSc, FRASC, was born in Western Canada, educated at McMaster University, and picked up his first film camera at a young age. He began shooting film in the early 1980's and spent hundreds of hours developing film and printing silver gelatin-based images for his High School yearbook. He is a member of the Canadian Association for Photographic Art and the Milton Photographic Arts Club. He currently lives in Milton, Ontario, Canada.

Professionally, his work in scientific imaging, detectors, and instrumentation is used by astronomers at observatories worldwide. He is a Life Member, Past President, and Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. His professional photographic work is often technical in nature, ranging from product and pack photography to astronomical images.

Mr. Haig is inspired by American photographers Edward Steichen, Ansel Adams, Diane Arbus, and contemporary Canadian photographers Robert Burley, Edward Burtynsky and Alan Dyer. He believes truth in imaging is best delivered by a contemplative, honest approach to the subject of his photographs and minimal post-processing or manipulation of images. He is fascinated by humanity's place among the stars, and uses his medium format digital and film cameras to reveal the magic of the sky.
